Consistent, accurately metered resin casting - at production volume.
General Casting
Resin casting pours a two-component thermoset material into a mould to form a finished part. Metered dispensing solves this at the source, delivering the same accurate mix every time.
The Casting Process
Casting pours a mixed two-component resin into a mould, where it cures to form the finished part. Unlike bonding or sealing, the resin isn't joining two surfaces - it's forming the object itself, so consistency in material condition, mix ratio, mixing quality and pour rate directly determines the quality of every single part produced.
- Manual mixing introduces variability between batches and between operators - a genuine problem when miscasts aren't visible until the resin has fully cured.
- Exposure to atmosphere during storage and manual mixing can lead to material spoilage and operator exposure to vapours.
- Metered dispensing removes these problems: consistent mixing quality between batches, and reduced operator exposure to raw materials.

Materials Used for General Casting
- Epoxy - from low-viscosity liquids to produce parts with high mechanical and physical properties.
- Polyurethane - cast parts across a wide viscosity range, commonly used for models, figures and production parts.
- Silicone - material for producing soft parts and flexible moulds. Very high temp resistance.

General Casting - FAQs
What materials are generally used for resin casting?
Epoxy is used for high-strength cast parts, polyurethane for cast parts across a wide Industry range including models, seals, bushes and figurines, and silicone for flexible cast parts.
What industries might be involved in this type of process?
The list is limitless, as casting thermoset resins to produce parts are used globally
Is purchasing resin in bulk containers more cost effective than manually mixing from small kits?
Generally, yes - bulk containers avoid the packaging premium built into small pre-measured kits, and reduce cost per litre at production volume. One 2KM customer who switched from small-batch manual mixing to bulk-fed automated dispensing reported being able to start production each day with a short calibration process rather than repeated manual measuring, with materials no longer exposed to atmosphere between batches.
Would a 2KM machine help to reduce cost and speed up my casting process?
In many cases, yes, and we have real evidence of this: one customer moving from manual resin casting to an automated 2KM mixing and dispensing system reported being able to produce four times the previous volume, with labour 50% more efficient, and achieved return on investment in under six months. The specific gains depend on your current process and volume, which our engineering team can assess directly.
